The vessel consists of two compartments one on top of the other, linked by a small hole.
The Diviner keeps a small field mouse in the bottom compartment. Food for the mouse is placed in the upper compartment. Special batons are arranged over the hole for divination purposes, which the mouse displaces while entering the upper compartment to feed, which then can be interpreted by the diviner.
