Double headed Ram
The ancient sub-Saharan city of Djenne-Jeno, the old Jenne, was founded by Sonike merchants between 850 and 1200 AD. The city, located in the inland flood plane of the Niger river delta, became an important trading post for merchants from the western and central Sudan, and Guinea. It was in direct contact with the important city of Timbuktu ,some 300 miles downstream on the Niger river.
