Orisha Eshu taught Orunmila the techniques of divination under the condition that he would receive a portion of all imposed sacrifices. He ordered Orunmila to get sixteen palm nuts from Orungan’s palm trees upon which he proceeded with his instructions of the art of divination, known as IFA. Orunmila in turn instructed Orungan how to divine, and he became Orunmila’s first disciple, and priest called Babalowa, or Father of Mysteries.
