Dimba is not a spirit or
a goddess
The Baga do not consider D’mba a spirit, or a goddess, although it is described as such in literature. They insist that D’mba is simply an “ idea” created by their ancestors: D’mba represented the abstract ideal of a female role in society. Although not a spiritual being or a goddess, she is a figure of great spiritual power.
She is the universal mother who is honored because she had born many children, who lived to become productive adults. She is the version of a woman at the zenith of power and beauty. Whether or not she is sacred is a matter of opinion and varies from one person to another, but everybody agrees she is an invention of the Baga people
