This bowl is interesting, due to its many symbols.
The tall hairdo identifies the kneeling woman as a Shango devotee. Devotees of Shango are closely associated with the royal court, and form an important part of royal ritual. Shango is the the orisha or god of thunder and lighting. His powers become evident during violent weather.

The fowl on the lid of the container could have several meanings.
They could allude to the negative forces of witchcraft, which diviners must counteract through divination, or represent doves, which are symbols of peace, humility, and absolute devotion,
or chickens which are frequently offered to the Orisha Akunlebo.
